I was assaulted by a gynecologist at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City in 2017. When I finally found the strength to file a complaint, it set off a two-and-a-half-year journey; from the hospital’s incompetent Patient Relations department, through the 18 months pending case at the medical board. During that time, I documented everything: The investigation process, the phone calls, the trips to request my own medical records, and the slow, disorienting paper trail I found myself navigating all by myself.
I made this film to reclaim my own story, but also because I couldn’t not document what was happening. I’m a journalist and activist at heart, and while I didn’t know at first that this would become a film, I knew I had to keep a record. This is a small film, made from mundane details, but every woman has her own version of this story. That’s why I decided to tell it, and why I feel fortunate to be able to include other voices, too.
